FRESNO, CA – (April 6, 2026) – A woman and her young son died early Monday after their vehicle was struck by a hit-and-run driver and forced into a canal in Fresno, police said.
Authorities identified the victims as Martha Hernandez, 41, and her 9-year-old son, Adrian Hernandez.
Investigators said Hernandez had exited southbound Highway 41 at McKinley Avenue and was making a left turn near Fresno Street around 2 a.m. when a Honda Pilot allegedly ran a red light and broadsided her Dodge SUV.
The impact sent the SUV across multiple lanes, over a median, and into a nearby canal. The driver of the Honda fled the scene.
Hernandez was initially believed to be the sole occupant. However, after family members raised concerns, a search was conducted and Adrian Hernandez’s body was later found about two miles downstream near Ferger Avenue and Arroyo Street.
Police continue to search for the suspect.
