LA BLANCA, Texas (Nov. 24, 2025) — A 76-year-old man was struck and killed Monday evening by a suspected drunk driver who fled the scene in the La Blanca area of Hidalgo County, according to authorities.
Texas Department of Public Safety officials identified the victim as Joe Davila Jr., of La Blanca.
Investigators said the crash occurred around 5:16 p.m. on State Highway 107 near La Blanca Road. A 33-year-old Alamo man was driving a gray Nissan Rogue westbound when he veered off the roadway, entered the shoulder, and continued into a bar ditch, where the vehicle struck Davila Jr., who had been taking out the trash.
The driver fled the scene but was located and arrested shortly afterward in a nearby business parking lot. He was charged with intoxication manslaughter with a vehicle and collision involving death, the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office reported. A judge set his bail at $400,000 on Tuesday.
The crash remains under investigation.
