Highway 522 bicycle collision kills Lancaster man Daniel Parker

LANCASTER, S.C., (Nov. 18, 2025) — A 38-year-old bicyclist was killed Tuesday evening after being struck by an SUV and subsequently involved in a secondary crash with a tractor-trailer in Lancaster, according to South Carolina state troopers.

Authorities said Daniel Parker was riding along Highway 522 near Firewood Road around 6 p.m. when a southbound Honda CR-V hit him. After that impact, the Honda collided with a northbound Peterbilt semi-truck that had stopped in traffic.

Parker was pronounced deceased at the scene. The fatal crash remains under investigation.

FATAL BICYCLE ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Authorities have not yet announced whether charges will be filed, as the South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate the fatal collision.

Bicyclists face significant risks on the roadway. According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, 854 cyclists were killed in motor-vehicle crashes in 2018, representing 2% of all traffic deaths. The National Safety Council also reports that an estimated 100,000 cyclists were injured that same year.

“Cyclists are extremely vulnerable in traffic, and numerous factors can contribute to these severe crashes,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal. “Determining the precise cause is essential. An attorney can analyze insurance coverage, consult expert witnesses, conduct background reviews, and locate critical witnesses. We work closely with the victim’s family throughout the process.”

Formica added that independent investigations are vital in cases like this to ensure all potential evidence is preserved and examined. “In addition to the police report, an attorney will carefully review all elements that may have contributed to the incident,” he said.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Depending on the outcome of the investigation, the family of Daniel Parker may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim. Families of wrongful death victims may seek compensation for loss of companionship, funeral expenses, emotional suffering, and other damages resulting from a tragic accident.

Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal and a national analyst for Accident Injury News, noted that families often face overwhelming challenges following such a loss.

“Grieving families are not always prepared for the legal procedures designed to protect their rights,” Bond said. “A wrongful death attorney can be a supportive and knowledgeable resource, helping guide loved ones through the process and ensuring they receive the compensation they deserve.”
