High-Speed Houston Collision Claims Life of Alberto Martinez in TX

HOUSTON, TX, (May 15, 2026) – A 44-year-old man was killed and a 33-year-old passenger was critically injured Friday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash in Houston, according to police.

Houston police said the crash occurred at approximately 4:40 p.m. in the 6700 block of Irvington Boulevard. Investigators determined that a Ram 1500 traveling south at a high rate of speed left the roadway and struck a fence and a pole.

The driver, identified as Alberto Martinez, 44, was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead due to his injuries.

A 33-year-old female passenger in the vehicle sustained critical injuries and was also taken to a hospital for emergency treatment.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash and what caused the vehicle to leave the roadway.

SINGLE-VEHICLE ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

The investigation by the Houston Police Department’s Vehicular Crimes Division remains ongoing as authorities work to determine what led to the crash.

Candice Bond, an experienced accident attorney, emphasized that in cases like this, an independent investigation should be conducted promptly to preserve crucial evidence.

“In addition to a police report, an attorney will carefully review what may have contributed to the crash,” said Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal and a national analyst for Accident Injury News. “Your lawyer has the resources to hire expert witnesses, conduct driver background checks, locate witnesses to the crash and review applicable insurance coverage. Serving as an advocate, an attorney can help compassionately guide victims during this difficult time, while protecting their legal rights.”

Authorities continue to examine possible factors that may have caused the Ram 1500 to leave the roadway. Single-vehicle crashes can occur due to a variety of circumstances, including speed, distraction, or mechanical issues.

The National Transportation Safety Board reports that more than 19,000 people are injured annually in crashes across the United States.

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Pending the outcome of the investigation, the 33-year-old passenger may have the right to pursue a personal injury claim for medical expenses, rehabilitation costs, lost wages, emotional trauma, and pain and suffering.

“Passengers who suffer injuries following a collision have several options in pursuing a personal injury lawsuit,” Bond said. “The passenger may open a claim with the insurance company of the vehicle they were occupied in if their driver is held liable. It has no impact on one’s own insurance policy since the claim is being made against a policy that is not their own.”

“When vehicle accidents result from unsafe driving, aggressive or distracted driving, speeding, or driving under the influence, victims are usually left with the option to pursue a civil action,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal.
