DPS: Hernandez, Romero-Sanez hurt in TX two-truck collision

GAINES, TX, (March 24, 2026) — Two Denver City men, Ruben Hernandez and Jaime Romero-Sanez, were seriously injured Tuesday night in a two-vehicle crash in Gaines County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Authorities said a GMC Sierra traveling westbound failed to stop at a stop sign at FM 2055 and FM 2056 at about 8:30 p.m., colliding with a northbound Ford F-150. The impact caused the Ford to overturn.

Hernandez and Romero-Sanez, both passengers in the Sierra, were transported to University Medical Center in Lubbock with serious injuries. A 19-year-old passenger in the Sierra died at the scene, and the driver of the Ford also sustained serious injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

According to the Federal Highway Administration, approximately 40 percent of traffic collisions occur at intersections, often due to drivers failing to obey stop signs or signals. Contributing factors frequently include impatience, reckless driving, and distracted behavior. Candice Bond, an experienced auto accident attorney, emphasized that an independent investigation is essential to protect the rights of victims.

“It is crucial to determine the exact cause of these types of crashes. An attorney can review insurance coverage, retain expert witnesses, conduct background checks, and identify witnesses,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal.

She added that prompt action is important to preserve key evidence.

“In addition to examining official reports, an attorney will assess all contributing factors,” Bond said. “Legal counsel has the resources to hire experts, investigate driver history, locate witnesses, and evaluate insurance policies. Acting as an advocate, an attorney can help guide injured victims through what can be a complex process.”

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

The victims may have the right to pursue a personal injury claim, pending the outcome of the investigation.

Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal, explained, “Injured victims involved in serious collisions often seek compensation for medical expenses, future care, lost income, emotional distress, and pain and suffering.”

“Insurance companies are often reluctant to fully cover the costs incurred by victims. An attorney can step in to protect their rights and help ensure they receive the compensation they deserve,” Bond added.
