Hector Ulises Guzman-Soto arrested in Laguna Heights pedestrian crash TX

LAGUNA HEIGHTS, TX, (March 28, 2026) – A pedestrian was seriously injured in a hit-and-run crash late at night in Laguna Heights, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Authorities said the incident occurred around midnight near State Highway 100 and Adams Street when a Chevrolet Sonic struck a man who was walking in the area.

The victim was transported to Valley Regional Medical Center in Brownsville, where he remains in critical but stable condition.

Officials identified the driver as 26-year-old Hector Ulises Guzman-Soto, who allegedly fled the scene following the collision but was later apprehended.

He has been charged with failure to stop and render aid, causing serious bodily injury, and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence.

HIT-AND-RUN CRASH INVESTIGATION

Leaving the scene of a crash is a criminal act, yet statistics show that more than one hit-and-run accident occurs every minute on U.S. roadways. Many drivers flee due to intoxication, lack of a valid license, or fear of legal consequences.

Candice Bond, an experienced hit-and-run accident attorney, stressed that in incidents like this, a prompt and independent investigation is essential to protect the rights of the victim.

“Having the proper resources is critical when investigating a hit-and-run case and establishing negligence,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal. “Road conditions, signage visibility, and lighting must all be thoroughly evaluated. These steps are necessary to help injured victims pursue justice and secure the financial compensation they deserve.”

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Pending the results of the investigation, the victim injured in this accident may have the right to pursue a personal injury lawsuit. Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal, noted that the stress and uncertainty following a serious injury can be overwhelming, affecting family life, employment, finances, and overall well-being.

“It is important for victims to retain an attorney when filing a personal injury claim so that negotiations with insurance companies are handled effectively,” Formica added. “Insurance providers often attempt to settle claims quickly for less than their actual value, but an attorney will advocate strongly to ensure fair treatment and proper compensation.”
