Heather Blair died in Ohio Freightliner truck-van collision on U.S. 30

CRAWFORD, OH, (May 02, 2026) – A 50-year-old Mansfield woman was killed in a multi-vehicle crash Saturday morning in Crawford County, according to the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office.

The collision occurred at approximately 11:09 a.m. on U.S. 30, just east of Ohio 598. Authorities said a 2002 Hyundai Tucson attempted to pass a 2022 Freightliner Cascadia tractor-trailer when the driver lost control of the vehicle.

Investigators reported that the Hyundai entered the outer westbound lane before coming to rest on the shoulder. The Freightliner slowed abruptly in an effort to avoid a collision, which led to a 2015 Dodge Caravan striking the truck’s left rear.

Heather Blair, a passenger in the Caravan, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Caravan and three additional passengers were transported to OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital. Two adults sustained serious injuries, while two juveniles were treated for minor injuries.

The occupants of the Hyundai and the truck driver were not injured.

The Crawford County Prosecutor is reviewing the case as the investigation remains ongoing.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

Several contributing factors are often linked to the rise in traffic fatalities, with driver behavior playing a central role. This includes speeding, impaired driving due to alcohol or drugs, and distractions such as cellphone use. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 8,055 people lost their lives in motor vehicle crashes during the first quarter of 2025.

As officials continue to determine the exact cause and liability in this crash, Candice Bond, an experienced accident attorney and Managing Partner of Bond Legal, emphasized the importance of an independent investigation.

“In addition to the thorough efforts of law enforcement, an attorney can re-examine key witnesses, review any available surveillance footage, and obtain critical phone and texting records from the responsible party,” said Bond, a national analyst for Accident Injury News.

“Acting quickly is crucial in cases like this, and the victim’s family must ensure that all evidence is carefully and promptly evaluated.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the outcome of the investigation, the family of Heather Blair may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim. Families who lose loved ones in such incidents may seek compensation for loss of companionship, emotional suffering, and other damages.

“The emotional toll after losing a loved one in a tragic accident can be devastating,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal.

“We recognize the challenges families face during these difficult times, and it is essential that their rights remain protected. A wrongful death attorney can monitor the progress of the investigation and help safeguard the family’s best interests.”
