Head-on crash in Shasta injures Maiya Beck, CHP reports

SHASTA, CA, (April 09, 2026) – A 21-year-old woman was airlifted with major injuries following a head-on crash Thursday morning on a rural roadway in Shasta County, authorities said.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred just before 8 a.m. along McArthur Road, north of Fall River Mills. A northbound 2014 Volkswagen reportedly crossed the centerline while navigating a curve and collided with a southbound 2003 Infiniti.

The impact caused the Infiniti, driven by Maiya Beck, to catch fire. Emergency responders airlifted Beck to Mercy Hospital in Redding for treatment of serious injuries.

The driver of the Volkswagen, an 85-year-old man, sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene. Officials said impairment was not a factor in the crash.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

Going left of center is one of the most dangerous roadway violations because it places a vehicle directly into the path of oncoming traffic. According to federal highway safety data, these types of crashes frequently occur on curves, during passing attempts, or when a driver unintentionally drifts across the centerline due to distraction, fatigue, or medical conditions.

Even a momentary lane departure can result in severe head-on collisions, which are among the deadliest types of accidents. Law enforcement agencies stress the importance of maintaining lane position, particularly on rural two-lane roads, to help prevent serious injuries and fatalities.

While authorities continue to examine the cause and liability of the crash, Candice Bond, an experienced accident attorney and Managing Partner of Bond Legal, emphasized the need for an independent investigation conducted by a skilled attorney.

“In addition to the thorough efforts of law enforcement, an attorney can revisit key witnesses, review surveillance footage, and obtain phone and texting records of the responsible party,” said Bond, a national analyst for Accident Injury News.

“Time is critical in cases like this, and it is essential that evidence is preserved and evaluated as quickly as possible,” Bond added.

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Pending the results of the investigation, Maiya Beck may have the right to pursue a personal injury lawsuit. Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal, noted that the stress and uncertainty following a serious injury can significantly impact all areas of life, including family, employment, finances, and overall well-being.

“It is crucial for victims to retain an attorney when pursuing a personal injury claim, as legal counsel can negotiate with insurance companies on their behalf,” Formica added.

“Insurance providers may attempt to pressure victims into accepting quick settlements that are far below the true value of the claim. An attorney will advocate strongly to ensure fair compensation and that the victim is treated appropriately throughout the process.”
