Head-on crash kills Green Ridge woman in Pettis

PETTIS, MO (March 31, 2026) – Two people were killed Tuesday night in a head-on collision on U.S. Highway 50 in Pettis County, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Authorities said a Chevrolet Silverado traveling eastbound crossed into oncoming traffic near Monsees Road at about 11:30 p.m. and collided with a Jeep Wrangler.

The Jeep driver, identified as a 45-year-old woman from Green Ridge, was pronounced dead at the scene. The 58-year-old man driving the pickup truck, from Smithton, also died in the crash.

Officials said the investigation is ongoing.

HEAD-ON CRASH INVESTIGATION

Head-on collisions are among the most severe types of crashes due to the combined force of vehicles often traveling at high speeds.

Driver error is the most common cause, though factors such as speeding, distracted driving, impaired driving, poor road design, and inexperience can also contribute.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) estimates that 40,901 people died in traffic crashes nationwide in 2023, including 991 fatalities in Missouri.

“Key contributing factors examined include road conditions, visibility, and lighting,” said Candice Bond, a Managing Partner with Bond Legal.

“Accident reconstruction teams are sometimes necessary to determine exactly what occurred. These resources are essential in helping victims’ families pursue compensation,” added Bond.

“Time is critical in cases like this, and it is important that evidence is reviewed promptly.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family of the victim could pursue a wrongful death claim. Family members of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident such as this.

“The grief and stress after losing a loved one in an accident can be overwhelming,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal.

“We understand what families go through, and protecting their rights is essential. A wrongful death attorney will monitor the investigation and help ensure that the family’s legal rights and best interests are protected.”
