Head-on crash severely injures teen passenger Alyson Shadix

LUDLOW, IL, (November 21, 2025) — A 17-year-old high school senior is in critical condition following a head-on collision Friday in Ludlow, authorities said.

According to officials, Alyson Shadix was riding as a passenger in one of the vehicles involved in the crash on U.S. Route 45 near North Oak Street. A GoFundMe page reported that Shadix suffered a stroke later that night at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana due to a blood clot that traveled to her brain.

She also sustained multiple serious injuries, including a broken jaw, missing teeth, neck injuries, facial cuts, a broken leg, and a broken hip. Shadix was airlifted to Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago the following day.

The online fundraiser was created to help the family manage extensive medical and recovery-related expenses. Shadix is an honor roll student at Rantoul Township High School and is scheduled to graduate in December. She is also enrolled to begin Parkland College’s CNA program in January.

HEAD-ON ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Although only 2% of crashes nationwide are head-on collisions, they account for more than 10% of all traffic-related deaths. While comprehensive data on head-on crashes are limited, AAA reports more than 2,000 fatalities from such collisions on divided highways between 2015 and 2018.

Candice Bond, an experienced auto accident attorney, has noted that driver error is the leading factor in many crashes of this nature. Contributing causes may include speeding, impaired driving, distraction, confusion, or poor road design. Investigators will evaluate all possible factors in determining what led to this collision.

Bond also emphasizes the importance of a prompt, independent investigation by an experienced attorney to safeguard the victim’s rights.

“Time is of the essence in situations like this, and ensuring that evidence is reviewed thoroughly and efficiently is critical,” said Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal and a national analyst for Accident Injury News. “An attorney can examine potential contributing factors, hire expert witnesses, conduct background checks, locate witnesses, and evaluate insurance coverage. As an advocate, an attorney can guide the victim through the process with compassion while protecting their legal rights.”

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Pending the outcome of the investigation, Alyson Shadix may have grounds to pursue a personal injury claim for medical bills, rehabilitation costs, pain and suffering, emotional distress, and other related damages.

“An incident becomes a personal injury case when a person or entity commits a negligent or wrongful act that causes harm,” explained Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal. “When unsafe driving behaviors such as speeding, distraction, aggressive driving, or impairment result in an accident, victims often have the option to pursue a civil claim for the losses they’ve suffered.”
