ST. PETERSBURG, FL, (May 31, 2026) — A multi-vehicle crash early Sunday morning in St. Petersburg left one person dead and two others seriously injured, according to the St. Petersburg Police Department.
Authorities said the collision occurred at approximately 1:15 a.m. near the intersection of 18th Avenue South and 29th Street South. Investigators reported that a Mercedes sedan traveling westbound on 18th Avenue South crossed into oncoming traffic and struck an eastbound Nissan head-on.
Following the initial impact, a westbound Oldsmobile collided with the front of the Nissan, creating a three-vehicle crash scene.
The driver of the Nissan was identified as Clifford Washington, 27. He was initially transported to Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital St. Petersburg before being transferred to Tampa General Hospital for treatment of critical injuries.
A 26-year-old passenger riding in the Nissan died at Bayfront Hospital. Authorities also said the 43-year-old driver of the Mercedes sustained serious injuries and was hospitalized.
The St. Petersburg Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision. Additional details were not immediately available.
