MALHEUR, OR (April 14, 2026) — Two people were killed Tuesday night following a head-on collision on Highway 95 near Jordan Valley in Malheur County, according to Oregon State Police (OSP), including an Idaho resident identified as Gary Albert Diederich.
Authorities said the crash occurred at approximately 10:03 p.m. near milepost 101 when a southbound Honda Accord crossed the centerline and entered the northbound lane. The vehicle then collided head-on with a Dodge Ram pickup truck towing a utility trailer.
Diederich, 74, of Greencreek, Idaho, was driving the northbound pickup at the time of the crash. Emergency personnel responded to the scene, where he was pronounced dead as a result of his injuries.
The driver of the Honda Accord, a 27-year-old man from California, also died at the scene. His identity has not yet been publicly released pending family notification.
OSP officials stated that the cause of the crash remains under active investigation. No further details have been confirmed regarding what led the Honda to cross into oncoming traffic.
