Greenville Head-on Collission on I-385 kills Charles Dallas

Greenville, SC (January 07, 2026) – An 88-year-old man died Thursday, one day after being injured in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 385 in Greenville, officials said.

According to Greenville police, Charles Elwood Dallas was involved in a collision before 9 a.m. Wednesday on the northbound lanes of I-385 near the Roper Mountain Road exit. Dallas was initially transported to a local urgent care facility before being taken to Prisma Health Greenville Memorial Hospital.

The Greenville County Coroner’s Office said Dallas passed away early Thursday morning. The crash remains under investigation.

FATAL TWO-VEHICLE ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

The Greenville Police Department and the Greenville County Coroner’s Office are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Each year, approximately 36,000 people are killed in motor vehicle accidents across the United States. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, speeding remains a leading cause of fatal crashes, followed by alcohol or drug impairment, failure to maintain proper lanes, failure to yield the right of way, and distracted driving.

Candice Bond, an experienced accident attorney, noted that beyond the work of law enforcement, it is crucial in cases such as this to conduct a timely and independent investigation to help preserve evidence and protect the rights of victims’ families.

“Our role as attorneys is to provide legal guidance and information to families who have lost loved ones in serious accidents,” said Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal and a national analyst for Accident Injury News. “We help ensure that families’ rights are protected and that statements to police or insurance companies are not used unfairly against them.”

Bond added that an attorney can thoroughly examine potential contributing factors to a crash and has the resources to retain expert witnesses, perform driver background checks, identify witnesses, and review applicable insurance coverage. She said legal counsel can serve as an advocate while compassionately guiding families through the legal process and safeguarding their interests.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the outcome of the investigation, the family of Charles Elwood Dallas may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim for damages that may include medical and funeral expenses, loss of love and companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional trauma.

“A wrongful death occurs when a person or entity engages in a negligent or wrongful act that results in the loss of life,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal. “When fatal vehicle accidents stem from unsafe or aggressive driving, distracted driving, speeding, or driving under the influence, surviving family members are often left with the option to pursue a civil claim against the at-fault party.”
