SPRING VALLEY, N.Y. — A 4-year-old girl died after a suspected drunken driver struck her and three others on a sidewalk Saturday night.
Goldy Eisenbach, daughter of Spring Valley Village Trustee Yisroel Eisenbach, succumbed to her injuries at a hospital following the 9:30 p.m. crash on Old Nyack Turnpike near Zachary Court. A 31-year-old man, 5-year-old boy, and 2-year-old boy were also injured when the vehicle left the roadway.
The group had been walking on the sidewalk when Axel Lopez-Santiago, age 41, allegedly struck all four pedestrians. The vehicle became disabled following the crash, trapping Lopez-Santiago inside until being extricated.
EMS transported all victims and the driver to area hospitals. The 31-year-old man suffered life-threatening injuries while the 5-year-old boy sustained serious injuries. The extent of the 2-year-old’s injuries was not immediately available.
Spring Valley Police arrested Lopez-Santiago on charges of driving while intoxicated and aggravated vehicular homicide. A judge set his bail at $750,000 cash during arraignment proceedings. Additional charges are pending as the investigation continues.
