SIMI VALLEY, CA (June 29, 2026) — A 79-year-old Agoura Hills woman was killed Monday afternoon after a Tesla left a parking lot, jumped a curb, and struck her before crashing into a café in Simi Valley, according to police.
Authorities identified the victim as Ginny Shields. Police said the crash occurred at approximately 2:30 p.m. in front of the Urbane Cafe near the intersection of Tierra Rejada and Madera roads on the city’s west side.
Investigators said a Tesla driven by a 65-year-old Thousand Oaks resident was traveling north through the parking lot when it crossed the east and west lanes, mounted the sidewalk, struck Shields, and continued into the café.
Shields was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Tesla driver and a passenger sustained moderate to minor injuries and were transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Family and friends remembered Shields as a devoted mother, grandmother, and wife. She previously worked as an interior designer and artist and volunteered at the Getty Villa Malibu, where she shared her passion for art and art history.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.
