CHP: Gilbert Pena Galarza Jr. Dies in Delano Pond Road Crash

DELANO, CA, June 28, 2026 — A 21-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a crash Sunday evening in Delano, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP identified the victim as Gilbert Pena Galarza Jr. of Earlimart. Officials say Galarza Jr. was riding a Honda CBR600 motorcycle westbound on Pond Road at approximately 9:12 p.m. when he was struck by a Nissan.

According to CHP, the crash occurred after the driver of the Nissan, a 58-year-old woman, made a left turn onto northbound Stradley Avenue, moving directly into the path of the oncoming motorcycle.

Galarza Jr. died at the scene as a result of the collision.

The crash remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol. No further details have been released at this time.

FATAL MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

According to Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal, the majority of motorcycle accidents are preventable and frequently stem from negligent driving by passenger vehicle operators.

Data from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety shows that 6,335 motorcyclists were killed in crashes in 2023 — the highest total on record and a 26% increase since 2019. Roughly 35 percent of motorcycle crashes involved a driver who failed to yield the right of way to a motorcyclist.

Bond noted that in cases such as this, having a seasoned lawyer conduct an independent investigation into the crash is critical to protecting the rights of the victim’s family.

“Motorcyclists are arguably the most vulnerable motorists on the road, and several factors can play a role in fatal crashes,” said Bond, an experienced motorcycle accident attorney and a national analyst with Accident Injury News. “Blind spots, inexperienced drivers, and distracted motorists often cause these types of collisions. An attorney has the resources to hire expert witnesses, conduct drivers’ background checks, locate witnesses to the crash, and review applicable insurance coverage, while carefully guiding the grieving family of the victim through the legal process and vigorously protecting their best interests.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

The surviving family members of Gilbert Pena Galarza Jr. may be eligible to pursue a wrongful death claim. Relatives of wrongful death victims can seek compensation for loss of companionship, pain, suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident.

“We understand just what families are forced to go through, and having their rights protected is vital,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal. “A wrongful death lawyer stays informed on the progress of the official investigation and works to ensure a family’s best interests are taken care of. Relatives of wrongful death victims have the right to pursue damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident.”
