Georgetown Multi-Vehicle Crash Kills Patricia Hood, Sheriff says

GEORGETOWN, IL, (October 15, 2025) – A multi-vehicle accident Wednesday in Georgetown tragically claimed the life of a Danville resident.

The collision occurred at approximately 12:16 p.m. on Illinois Route 1 at 15th Street, at the north end of Georgetown. According to authorities, three vehicles were southbound when the last vehicle attempted to pass the middle vehicle. The passing vehicle struck the rear of the front vehicle, then crossed into the northbound lane and collided head-on with a northbound vehicle.

Patricia Hood, 52, of Danville, was pronounced dead at the hospital just before 3:30 p.m., according to the Champaign County Coroner. A 51-year-old Danville man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The passing vehicle contained three occupants, while the other two vehicles each had one occupant. Emergency responders transported four people to area hospitals.

The Vermilion County Sheriff’s Department and Coroner’s Office continue to investigate the fatal crash.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

“It is imperative to determine the exact cause of these types of accidents. An attorney has the resources to review insurance coverage, hire expert witnesses, run background checks, and locate witnesses,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal.

Bond emphasized the importance of an independent investigation to preserve critical evidence. “In addition to reviewing the police report, an attorney can carefully examine all factors that may have contributed to the crash and guide the family through what can be a complex process,” she added.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family of Patricia Hood may pursue a wrongful death claim. Family members of wrongful death victims can seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a catastrophic accident.

“The grief and stress after losing a loved one in an accident can be overwhelming,” said Bond. “It’s crucial to protect a family’s legal rights. A wrongful death attorney will stay updated on the official investigation and help ensure that the family’s best interests are safeguarded.”
