George Mauricio Killed in Thousand Palms I-10 Semi vs Jeep Crash

PALM DESERT, CA, (April 14, 2026) – A 62-year-old Yucca Valley man was killed and several others were injured Tuesday morning in a multi-vehicle crash in Thousand Palms, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

Authorities identified the victim as George Mauricio. The crash occurred at approximately 7:50 a.m. along Interstate 10 west of Washington Street.

Preliminary reports indicate that a semi-truck traveling eastbound veered left, crossed the center median, and entered westbound lanes, where it collided with a cement truck. The semi then became disabled and came to rest perpendicular across the freeway before being struck by a Jeep.

Mauricio, who was driving the cement truck, died at the scene from injuries sustained in the collision.

Six other individuals were transported to area hospitals with injuries ranging from major to precautionary, officials said.

The CHP continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), driver-related factors were identified in 2,554 of the 7,368 (34.7 percent) fatal semi-truck crashes recorded during a recent two-year period.

Numerous additional elements may contribute to tractor-trailer collisions, including loss of vehicle control, tire blowouts, mechanical failures, speeding, lane departures, improper maneuvers, and driver fatigue.

Candice Bond, a seasoned semi-truck accident attorney, explained that investigations into these types of crashes demand extensive resources.

When representing a grieving family, an attorney can analyze the crash scene, inspect the truck, review driver qualifications, and examine the trucking company’s logbooks and operational records to preserve critical evidence.

“Tractor-trailer crashes are often complex, and multiple factors may contribute to these incidents,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the outcome of the investigation, the family of George Mauricio may have grounds to file a wrongful death claim. Surviving family members can seek compensation for loss of companionship, emotional suffering, and other damages resulting from such a tragic accident.

“The grief and emotional burden following the loss of a loved one in an accident can be overwhelming,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal.

“A wrongful death attorney will monitor the progress of the investigation and work to ensure that the victim’s legal rights and the family’s best interests are fully protected.”
