ALEA: George Jones, Jr. Killed in I-65 Autauga Rear-End Crash

AUTAUGA, AL, (Aug. 12, 2026) – A 58-year-old Elmore man was killed in a rear-end crash Wednesday on Interstate 65 in Autauga County.

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), George Jones, Jr. was fatally injured when the vehicle he was driving was struck from behind by another driver at approximately 9:39 p.m., about 10 miles north of Prattville. The crash remains under investigation.

FATAL REAR-END CRASH INVESTIGATION

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) estimates that distracted driving is responsible for roughly 90 percent of all rear-end collisions.

Common distractions behind rear-end crashes include texting, adjusting a radio, rubbernecking at nearby accidents, and interacting with passengers. These crashes can also stem from driving under the influence, tailgating, speeding, and other forms of aggressive driving.

Data from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) shows rear-end collisions result in roughly 950,000 injuries and 2,000 deaths nationwide each year.

Candice Bond, an experienced auto accident attorney, noted that in cases like this one, launching an independent investigation quickly is essential to preserving evidence on behalf of a grieving family.

“Beyond the important work law enforcement does, an attorney can gather the evidence needed to demonstrate that a driver acted recklessly, and that takes a range of resources,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and a national analyst with Accident Injury News. “A lawyer can re-interview key witnesses, review any available surveillance footage from the crash scene, and secure the at-fault driver’s phone and text records. Acting as an advocate, an attorney helps guide a family compassionately through this difficult time while firmly protecting their legal rights and interests.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

The family of George Jones, Jr. may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim. Families of wrongful death victims can seek compensation for loss of companionship, pain, suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident.

“We know firsthand what families endure in these situations, and protecting their rights is essential,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal. “A wrongful death attorney stays closely engaged with the ongoing investigation and works to safeguard the family’s best interests. Relatives of wrongful death victims have the right to pursue damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident.”
