PINEHURST, Texas — The Orange Police Department and Pinehurst Police Department are investigating a multi-vehicle accident that happened May 12 on Highway 87 near FM-105. Officials said a pickup truck flipped after striking several vehicles.
Authorities identified the driver as Gavin Manasco, 19. Investigators determined that he fled the scene of an earlier accident before causing a series of crashes.
At around 5:30 p.m., Manasco drove a 1989 Ford F-100 truck on Texas 62 near FM-1078. He was involved in a minor accident but left the scene without stopping.
An officer of the Pinehurst Police Department spotted Manasco near Strickland Drive and Martin Luther King at 5:45 p.m. Manasco fled south on Strickland Drive and struck another vehicle near The Home Depot.
Manasco continued onto Texas 87, where he collided with three vehicles at the intersection of FM-105. His truck overturned multiple times into a ditch.
Emergency personnel transported Manasco to St. Elizabeth Hospital with serious injuries. Two other individuals suffered incapacitating injuries and were also taken to the hospital.
The Bridge City Police Department, Texas Department of Public Safety, and Orange Fire Department assisted. Authorities continue to investigate the accident and urge anyone with information to contact law enforcement.
