Gage Ward killed in Hill County pedestrian crash, DPS says

HILL, TX, (March 19, 2026) — A 25-year-old Missouri man was killed in a pedestrian accident early March 19 in Hill County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).

Authorities said Gage Ward was struck by a Dodge Ram pickup truck and a tractor-trailer at approximately 4:30 a.m. on Interstate 35 south of Abbott.

Ward was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials have not released additional details regarding the circumstances leading up to the crash.

The incident remains under investigation.

FATAL PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Pedestrian fatalities in the U.S. are rising at a significantly faster rate than overall traffic deaths, according to the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA).

From 2009 to 2023, pedestrian deaths surged by 80%, compared to a 13% increase in other traffic-related fatalities. These incidents often occur due to a mix of factors such as speeding, driver negligence, distracted driving, and impairment.

Candice Bond, an experienced pedestrian accident attorney, emphasized the importance of an independent investigation in such cases.

“Having the proper resources is critical to thoroughly investigate a pedestrian accident and establish negligence,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and national analyst with Accident Injury News. “Factors like road conditions, visibility of signage, and lighting must all be reviewed. These steps are essential to help families obtain justice and rightful compensation.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

The family members of Gage Ward may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim. Families of wrongful death victims may seek compensation for loss of companionship, pain, suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic accident.

“We recognize the emotional and legal challenges families endure, and safeguarding their rights is crucial,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal. “A wrongful death attorney will remain informed about the investigation and ensure the family’s interests are protected. Loved ones may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress.”
