THP: Gabrielle Boone Killed in Fayette County Head-on Collision on SR 59

SOMERVILLE, TN, January 04, 2026 – A two-vehicle collision Sunday evening in Somerville resulted in the death of one woman and led to multiple criminal charges against another driver, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

Authorities identified the victim as Gabrielle Boone, 33. The crash occurred just before 6:30 p.m. on State Route 59. Boone was traveling in one of the vehicles involved and later succumbed to her injuries.

THP officials stated that the second driver, a 46-year-old Fayette County man, fled the immediate crash area and was later located in a nearby wooded section. He has been charged with vehicular homicide, reckless endangerment, failure to stop at the scene, and driving under the influence.

The suspect has since been released on $250,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday. Investigators have not yet determined what caused the collision.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Even when a driver believes they are not impaired, alcohol or drugs can negatively affect reaction time, judgment, and coordination. Impaired driving greatly increases the likelihood of serious or fatal crashes. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, approximately 10,850 people lost their lives each year in drunk driving crashes from 2012 through 2021.

A separate investigation will be necessary to identify additional contributing factors, including the results of any blood-alcohol or toxicology testing conducted on the driver.

“Drivers who operate a vehicle while impaired can face serious criminal penalties when an accident results in injury or death,” explained Candice Bond, a Managing Partner at Bond Legal. “Beyond criminal consequences, surviving family members may have the right to pursue compensation through a civil claim,” Bond added.

“Acting as an advocate, an attorney can provide guidance and support during an incredibly difficult time, helping protect legal rights while working to hold impaired drivers accountable,” Bond said, an experienced DUI accident attorney. This information was provided by Accident Injury News.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Depending on the outcome of the investigation, the surviving family of Gabrielle Boone may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim. Such claims can include compensation for medical bills, funeral costs, loss of companionship, emotional suffering, and related damages.

“A death may be considered wrongful when it results from negligent or unlawful conduct by another party,” said Stefano Formica, of Counsel with Bond Legal.

“In cases where fatal crashes are caused by unsafe behaviors such as impaired driving, excessive speed, or distracted driving, families are often left with the option of seeking accountability through a civil lawsuit against the at-fault driver.”
