Fresno Hit-and-Run Kills Motorcyclist Marvin Johnson

FRESNO, CA, July 1, 2026 — A motorcyclist was killed in a suspected hit-and-run crash Wednesday night in central Fresno, authorities said.

The Fresno County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 30-year-old Marvin Johnson, a Fresno resident.

According to Fresno police, the collision occurred around 9 p.m. at the intersection of Dakota and Fruit Avenues. A vehicle traveling eastbound on Dakota reportedly made a northbound turn at the intersection and struck Johnson’s motorcycle, which was heading westbound on Dakota. The driver, believed to be operating a large-frame Ford, fled the scene northbound on Fruit Avenue.

Johnson was transported to Community Regional Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.

Fresno police are actively searching for the suspect. The investigation into the crash remains ongoing.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

U.S. motorcycle fatalities hit a record high of 6,335 in 2023, accounting for 15% of all traffic deaths and marking the deadliest year since 1975, according to NHTSA. With a fatality rate of 31.39 per 100 million miles traveled, stronger motorist education and road safety measures remain essential to preventing further loss of life.

Fleeing the scene of a crash is both reckless and inhumane. Leaving an injured victim behind can deprive them of the immediate, life-saving care they need. In 2023, hit-and-run crashes resulted in 2,872 traffic fatalities nationwide.

“Motorcyclists are among the most vulnerable road users,” said Candice Bond, managing partner of Bond Legal. “Even minor collisions can cause serious injuries, making caution essential for all motorists.”

Bond, an experienced motorcycle accident attorney, emphasized that in cases like this, having a seasoned lawyer conduct an independent investigation is critical to protecting the rights of the victim’s family, as reported by Accident Injury News.

“Blind spots, inexperienced drivers, and distracted motorists often cause these types of collisions. Serving as an advocate, an attorney can help compassionately guide a family during this difficult time, protecting their rights while ensuring that a driver is held accountable if they do not obey traffic laws.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Depending on the results of the investigation, the family of Marvin Johnson may be eligible to file a wrongful death claim. Relatives of wrongful death victims can pursue compensation for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress resulting from a catastrophic accident like this one.

“The stress and sorrow can be extremely overwhelming after losing a loved one in an accident,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal.

“We understand just what families are forced to go through, and having their rights protected is vital. A wrongful death lawyer stays updated on the official investigation to help ensure that a family’s legal rights and best interests remain protected.”
