Fredrick Lutz killed in High Point left-turn collision, police say

HIGH POINT, NC (May 28, 2026) – A two-vehicle crash in High Point, North Carolina, claimed the life of 79-year-old Fredrick Simon Lutz and left two others seriously injured Wednesday afternoon, according to police.

Authorities said the collision occurred around 2:15 p.m. at the intersection of Westchester Drive and Wickliff Avenue. Investigators report that Lutz was driving when he attempted a left turn and collided with another vehicle traveling through the intersection.

The impact caused serious injuries to two occupants in the second vehicle, both of whom were transported to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment. Lutz was also taken to a local hospital following the crash but later died from his injuries the next day.

Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

When a driver has the right-of-way, other motorists are required to yield and allow safe passage through intersections, especially during turning movements.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), approximately 2.2 million people were injured in motor vehicle crashes across the United States in 2023.

“It is essential to determine the precise cause of these types of collisions. An attorney has the resources to review applicable insurance coverage, engage expert witnesses, conduct background reviews, and identify witnesses. We carefully guide the family of the victim through the process,” said Candice Bond, a managing partner with Bond Legal.

She added that in incidents like this, an independent investigation should begin as early as possible to help preserve crucial evidence.

“In addition to a police report, an attorney will carefully evaluate any contributing factors to the crash,” Bond said. “A lawyer has the resources to bring in expert witnesses, review drivers’ backgrounds, locate witnesses, and assess insurance coverage. Acting as an advocate, an attorney helps guide injury victims through what can be a complex process.”

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Pending the outcome of the investigation, the injured parties may have the right to pursue a personal injury claim. Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal, noted that the emotional and physical toll following a serious crash can be overwhelming, affecting daily life, family responsibilities, work, finances, and overall well-being.

“It is important for victims to seek legal representation when filing a personal injury claim, allowing attorneys to negotiate directly with insurance companies on their behalf,” Formica added.

“Insurance companies are often not focused on the long-term costs faced by injured victims. An attorney can step in to help. We represent victims of these incidents regularly, holding insurers accountable and ensuring compensation for negligence,” he said.
