WILSON COUNTY, NC (June 27, 2026) — A 72-year-old Rocky Mount man was killed Saturday night after being struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross Interstate 95 in Wilson County, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
Investigators said Fred J. Brockington was wearing dark clothing when he attempted to run across the northbound lanes from the right shoulder toward the median near mile marker 120 at approximately 9:52 p.m.
Authorities said a vehicle traveling in the left lane struck Brockington, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver remained at the scene, and no charges have been filed.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the fatal pedestrian collision.
