Frank and Linda Atchison injured in Alabama Police chase wreck

JACKSON, AL (March 31, 2026) – Two people were seriously injured in a head-on collision crash triggered by a police pursuit Tuesday night in Jackson.

According to the Clarke County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were chasing a vehicle along Highway 69 when the fleeing driver crossed the center line and struck an oncoming vehicle at approximately 9:30 p.m.

Frank and Linda Atchison, occupants of the second vehicle, sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to a hospital.

The fleeing driver was taken to a hospital in Montgomery, where he later died.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is investigating the crash.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

Traffic laws require motorists to comply when law enforcement attempts a stop, and investigators will also review whether proper pursuit procedures were followed.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 577 people died in crashes involving police pursuits in 2022, the highest number recorded.

Candice Bond, an experienced auto accident attorney, stated that an independent investigation is essential in cases like this to protect victims’ rights.

“An attorney can gather key evidence to establish whether a driver acted recklessly, using various investigative tools,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and a national analyst for Accident Injury News. “This includes re-interviewing witnesses, reviewing surveillance footage, and obtaining phone records. Legal advocates help guide victims while protecting their rights throughout the process.”

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Pending the investigation, Frank and Linda Atchison may have the right to pursue personal injury claims.

Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal, noted that the impact of serious injuries can be overwhelming, affecting all areas of life including work, finances, and family responsibilities.

“It is important for victims to retain legal counsel when filing a personal injury claim so that negotiations with insurance companies can be handled effectively,” Formica said.

“Insurance companies often attempt to settle claims quickly for less than their full value. An attorney will advocate to ensure victims are treated fairly and receive appropriate compensation,” he added.
