SHELBY, IA, (May 31, 2026) — A 63-year-old motorcyclist lost his life Sunday afternoon following a collision involving a sport utility vehicle at an intersection in Shelby County, according to the Iowa State Patrol.
Authorities identified the victim as Francis Rueschenberg. Investigators said he was traveling south on Highway 59 at approximately 3 p.m. when a Chevrolet Equinox traveling north attempted to turn west onto County Road F32.
The SUV and motorcycle collided at the intersection, causing fatal injuries to Rueschenberg. Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but he succumbed to his injuries as a result of the crash.
The Iowa State Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision. No additional information regarding the driver of the Equinox or potential contributing factors has been released.
Officials have not announced whether any charges or citations are expected as the investigation remains ongoing.
