Four Killed in Walker Co with Trenton Curl After Jeep Crosses Centerline

WALKER, TX, (May 16, 2026) – Four people lost their lives late Saturday night following a head-on collision along State Highway 30 in Walker County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

State troopers said the crash occurred at approximately 11:40 p.m. west of Wesley Grove Road. Preliminary reports indicate that an eastbound 2019 Jeep Wrangler crossed the centerline and struck a westbound 2019 Buick SUV head-on.

Authorities identified the driver of the Buick as Trenton Matthew Curl, 21, of Rockdale. Curl sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 21-year-old woman from Leander and an unidentified 10-year-old child who were traveling in the Buick also died in the collision. The 23-year-old driver of the Jeep Wrangler was likewise pronounced deceased at the scene.

Emergency crews responded to the highway and closed portions of the roadway while investigators documented evidence and cleared the damaged vehicles.

The Texas Department of Public Safety has not released additional information regarding the circumstances surrounding the collision as the investigation remains ongoing.

HEAD-ON CRASH INVESTIGATION

Head-on crashes are most often associated with driver-related errors. However, other contributing factors can include speeding, distracted driving, impaired driving, roadway design issues, inexperienced motorists, and driver confusion.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, an estimated 40,901 people died in motor vehicle crashes throughout the United States in 2023, marking a 4.3% decline from 2022 and the second consecutive yearly decrease.

“Investigators will look into factors such as roadway conditions, lighting, and visibility,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner with Bond Legal.

“In some situations, accident reconstruction specialists are needed to determine exactly how a crash occurred. These investigative resources are critical in helping victims and families seek compensation for losses following a serious collision,” Bond added.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

As the investigation continues, the family of a victim may choose to pursue a wrongful death claim. Families affected by wrongful death accidents may seek compensation for emotional distress, pain and suffering, and the loss of companionship following a tragic incident.

“The grief and emotional trauma after the sudden loss of a loved one in an accident can be incredibly difficult,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal.

“We understand the hardships families face during these tragic situations, and protecting their legal rights is essential. A wrongful death attorney can follow the official investigation closely while helping families protect their best interests,” Formica added.
