COLUMBUS, OH, (March 27, 2026) – A woman was killed Friday night after being struck by a vehicle in north Columbus, authorities said.
According to the Columbus Division of Police, Florence Vitka, 59, was hit by a Honda Civic at approximately 10:55 p.m. at the intersection of East Dublin Granville Road and the ramp to Interstate 71 southbound.
Vitka was taken to Riverside Methodist Hospital, where she died at 11:35 p.m. The incident remains under investigation.
This tragic accident highlights the risks pedestrians face daily across the country.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 7,522 pedestrians were killed in traffic crashes in 2022, the highest number since 1981. Pedestrian deaths made up about 17% of all traffic fatalities, reflecting a concerning rise in roadway dangers.
