Fatal pedestrian crash kills James Harvey, 48, in Fresno

FRESNO, CA — Sunday, November 24, 2025 — James Harvey, 48, of Fresno, was tragically killed Sunday evening after being struck by a vehicle in a fatal pedestrian accident at a north Fresno intersection.

According to the Fresno Police Department, officers responded to the intersection of Bullard Avenue and First Street where they located Mr. Harvey lying in the roadway. Investigators reported that the victim was attempting to cross Bullard Avenue westbound when he was hit by a vehicle. Mr. Harvey was administered first aid at the scene before being transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The Fresno County Coroner’s Office officially identified the victim as James Harvey. The driver involved in the collision remained at the scene and cooperated with law enforcement officials. The driver was not suspected of being under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Fresno Police have asked anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact them with information.

FATAL PEDESTRIAN CRASH INVESTIGATION

Despite continuous safety awareness initiatives, the incidence of pedestrian fatalities on American roadways continues to reach concerning levels. These tragic deaths are generally avoidable, and drivers play a crucial role in preventing them by maintaining full attention whenever operating a vehicle. According to a report released by the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA), an estimated 2,304 pedestrians were struck and killed by drivers across U.S. roads during the first half of 2024.

“In the majority of situations, pedestrians hold the right of way when attempting to traverse an intersection or a street, irrespective of whether they are utilizing a marked crosswalk,” stated Candice Bond, a lawyer specializing in pedestrian accident cases.

Candice Bond, who is a Managing Partner at Bond Legal, emphasized that it is vital to have a comprehensive, independent investigation conducted by an expert legal professional. This step is necessary to safeguard the rights of the victim’s family in circumstances like these.

Candice Bond, an experienced pedestrian accident attorney and a national analyst for Accident Injury News, underscored the necessity of a swift and independent investigation. Bond emphasized that, in cases such as this, fatal collisions often result from driver factors such as distraction, excessive speed, or failing to properly yield to a pedestrian’s right-of-way. “Time is essential in legal proceedings of this nature, and the family of the victim must ensure that all critical evidence is secured and reviewed in an efficient manner,” said Bond. She added that an attorney possesses the resources to interview witnesses, conduct background checks on the responsible party, and analyze applicable insurance coverage, which are vital steps to help a family receive the compensation and justice they deserve.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

In most scenarios involving a pedestrian and a motor vehicle, pedestrians are legally afforded the right-of-way. Pending the conclusion of the official police investigation, the family members of James Harvey may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim.

Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal and a national analyst for Accident Injury News, addressed the difficulties faced by grieving families. “Losing a loved one in a tragic accident like this can be devastating, resulting in immense emotional trauma, pain, and suffering,” Formica said. He noted that in cases such as this, a wrongful death attorney’s role is to provide compassionate guidance, diligently monitor the official investigation, and work to protect the victim’s best interests. Family members may seek damages for emotional distress, pain and suffering, and loss of companionship following a catastrophic event.
