Fairfield police chase ends in fatal crash, Taevion Knox killed

FAIRFIELD, CA, (March 31, 2026) – A 30-year-old Oroville man was killed in a police chase accident Tuesday in Fairfield.

According to the Napa County Sheriff’s Department, Taevion Knox was a passenger in a Mercedes-Benz that fled deputies after a stop around midnight on Highway 12 near Highway 29. Authorities said the vehicle reached speeds of up to 120 mph before crashing near the Travis Air Force Base visitor center.

The vehicle became engulfed in flames following the crash. Knox and the driver were pronounced dead at the scene. The incident remains under investigation.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

When a police officer attempts to stop a motorist, it is the driver’s legal duty to comply.

Failure to do so constitutes a criminal offense. Investigators will also review whether proper procedures were followed by officers during the pursuit.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 577 people died in police pursuits nationwide in 2022. In situations like this, Candice Bond, an experienced auto accident attorney, emphasized the importance of hiring an attorney to conduct an independent investigation to preserve evidence and safeguard the rights of grieving families.

“Time is critical in cases like these, and families must ensure that evidence is examined promptly,” said Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal and national analyst for Accident Injury News. “Alongside law enforcement efforts, an attorney will evaluate contributing factors and has the resources to engage expert witnesses, review driver histories, locate witnesses, and analyze insurance coverage. Acting as an advocate, an attorney provides guidance during a difficult time while protecting the client’s legal rights and interests.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

The family members of Taevion Knox may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim. Families of wrongful death victims can seek compensation for loss of companionship, pain, suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic accident.

“We understand the immense hardship families endure, and protecting their rights is essential,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal. “A wrongful death attorney will monitor the official investigation and help ensure the family’s interests are represented. Loved ones may pursue damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress after a catastrophic loss.”
