EL CAJON, CA, (March 30, 2026) – An 80-year-old woman from San Diego, Evelyn Buangan Castro, died Monday evening after a two-vehicle crash on Willow Glen Drive near Jamacha Road, authorities said.
Castro was a passenger in one of the vehicles when it collided with another car shortly before 6 p.m. She was transported to Sharp Memorial Hospital, where she died from her injuries about an hour later. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
Several factors contribute to the rise in traffic fatalities, including speeding, driving under the influence, and distracted driving, particularly cellphone use. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported 8,055 motor vehicle deaths in the first quarter of 2025.
