Estefany Hernandez Dies After Baldwin Truck Stop Crash

BALDWIN, FL, (September 15, 2026) – Estefany Hernandez, 29, was killed Tuesday evening after being struck by a semi-truck at a Baldwin truck stop, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

The crash occurred at approximately 7:20 p.m. at the Love’s Travel Stop parking lot near U.S. Highway 301 and Interstate 10.

According to officials, Hernandez was walking through the parking lot when a semi-truck attempting to make a turn struck her.

Emergency responders pronounced Hernandez dead at the scene.

The truck driver was issued a citation following the crash.

The circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

According to the National Safety Council (NSC), an estimated 150,000 people were injured and another 4,951 people lost their lives in collisions involving large trucks and commercial vehicles. Fatal crashes involving large trucks often occur in rural areas and on interstate highways.

Pedestrians face a higher risk in parking lots where drivers operate vehicles in confined spaces and may become distracted. These accidents can also result from driver negligence, inadequate visibility, and poor parking lot design. Parking lot owners are responsible for ensuring that parking areas are safe for all parties and are often the responsible party in an accident.

Candice Bond, an experienced commercial and pedestrian accident attorney, said that in cases such as this, it is imperative to promptly conduct an independent investigation to protect a victim’s rights.

“Commercial accidents are often complex, and many factors can play a role in these types of accidents,” said Bond, who is a Managing Partner of Bond Legal.

“A skilled attorney can protect victims from trucking companies, which often send their own investigators to crash sites and possess a variety of resources they can utilize to defend a negligent truck driver.

Bond said a lawyer can advocate for a victim by hiring expert witnesses, conducting driver background checks, locating witnesses to the crash, and reviewing applicable insurance coverage while carefully guiding a victim through the legal process.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

“It is almost always a driver’s duty to yield to any pedestrian,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal. The family of Estefany Hernandez may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim.

“Family members of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of income and companionship, pain and suffering, funeral expenses, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident,” said Formica.

An attorney serving as an advocate can compassionately guide a family through this difficult period while protecting their rights.

“Insurance companies often try to pressure victims to settle for a quick payout for far less than the case is worth,” Formica noted. “However, an attorney will vigorously advocate for their client to ensure that they are treated with respect and compensated fairly.”
