ALEA: Erin Coffey hurt in Madison County pickup truck Collision

MADISON, AL, (July 05, 2026) – A single-vehicle crash Sunday evening in Madison County claimed the life of one man and left a passenger injured, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA).

Authorities said a 1997 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck was traveling in the 700 block of Charity Lane at approximately 5 p.m. when it left the roadway and struck a utility pole.

ALEA reported that the driver was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials have not yet released the driver’s identity.

Passenger Erin N. Coffey, 32, of New Market, sustained injuries in the crash and was transported to Huntsville Hospital for treatment. Authorities have not disclosed the extent of Coffey’s injuries.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

Every year, millions of people suffer injuries in motor vehicle crashes across the United States, many of which result in life-changing consequences. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, approximately 2.44 million people were injured in traffic accidents nationwide in 2023.

While investigators continue to determine the cause of the crash and any potential liability, Candice Bond, an experienced accident attorney and Managing Partner of Bond Legal, said an independent investigation conducted by an experienced attorney is often essential.

“In addition to the thorough work performed by law enforcement, an attorney can re-interview key witnesses, review any surveillance footage from the crash scene, and obtain phone and texting records of the liable party,” said Bond, a national analyst for Accident Injury News.

“Time is of the essence in cases such as this, and the victim’s family should ensure that all available evidence is preserved and examined promptly,” Bond added.

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Pending the outcome of the investigation, a victim may have the right to pursue a personal injury lawsuit.

Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal, noted that the emotional and financial strain following a serious injury can be overwhelming, affecting family life, employment, finances, and overall well-being.

“It is important for victims to retain an attorney when pursuing a personal injury claim because legal counsel can negotiate with insurance companies on behalf of the client,” Formica said.

“Insurance companies often attempt to pressure victims into accepting a quick settlement that is significantly less than the value of the claim. An attorney will work diligently to protect the client’s rights and pursue fair compensation,” Formica added.
