Eric Henson tragically killed in Winslow head-on ATV accident

WINSLOW, Ark. — A 51-year-old Winslow man died Tuesday evening when a vehicle crossed the centerline and struck his ATV on U.S. Highway 71.

Eric Daniel Henson was driving a 2002 Polaris ATV northbound near Wexel Drive at 5:16 p.m. when the crash occurred. A 2014 GMC traveling southbound crossed into the northbound lane and collided head-on with Henson’s ATV.

The impact sent both vehicles off the roadway onto the east side of the highway. Both the GMC and ATV came to rest in a roadside ditch following the collision.

Henson was pronounced dead after the crash.

Authorities have not released the condition of the GMC driver.

Weather was not a factor in the crash as conditions were clear at the time.

Arkansas State Police are investigating the circumstances that led to the fatal accident.

ATV ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

The latest data reveals a deeply concerning trend in off-highway vehicle safety across the United States. According to tracking conducted by the Consumer Federation of America, 2024 witnessed a dramatic surge in fatalities, with 632 off-highway vehicle deaths identified—a staggering 27% increase from the 498 deaths recorded in 2023. This sharp upward trajectory represents one of the most significant year-over-year increases in recent memory, with all-terrain vehicles comprising the majority of these tragic incidents.

Candice Bond, a Managing Partner at Bond Legal and national analyst for Accident Injury News, said in such cases, it is imperative to have an independent investigation conducted sooner than later to preserve any evidence.

“In addition to a police report, an attorney will carefully review what may have contributed to the crash,” said Bond.

“Your lawyer has the resources to hire expert witnesses, conduct background checks, locate witnesses to the crash and review applicable insurance coverage. Serving as an advocate, an attorney can help guide an injury victim through what can be a complicated process.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family of Eric Henson could pursue a wrongful death claim. Family members of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident such as this.

“The stress and sorrow can be extremely overwhelming after losing a loved one in an accident,” Bond added.

“We understand just what families must go through, and having their rights protected is vital. A wrongful death lawyer will stay updated on the official investigation and help ensure that their legal rights and best interests are protected.”
