Emily Trela Killed in Jasper County Rear-End Crash on Highway 63

JASPER, TX, (September 04, 2026) — Emily Trela, a 22-year-old woman who had recently moved from Tennessee to Jasper, was killed Friday evening after her SUV was struck from behind in Jasper County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The crash occurred at approximately 6:30 p.m. as Trela was driving west on State Highway 63. According to a preliminary investigation, she was attempting to turn left onto County Road 168 when a Dodge Ram pickup struck her vehicle from behind.

DPS said the pickup driver failed to control speed. Trela was transported to Jasper Memorial Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

The driver of the Dodge Ram was not injured in the collision.

No additional details were immediately available.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Rear-end crashes can happen for several reasons, although distracted driving is often a contributing factor. Actions that may seem harmless, such as texting, talking on the phone or adjusting vehicle controls, can result in serious or fatal collisions. These types of crashes are common and account for a significant number of deaths and injuries on U.S. roads. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that 8,055 lives were lost in motor vehicle collisions during the first quarter of 2025.

While the cause and liability of the crash are being investigated, Candice Bond, an experienced accident attorney and Managing Partner of Bond Legal, said it is important to have an independent investigation conducted by an experienced attorney.

“In addition to the diligent work of law enforcement, an attorney can re-interview important witnesses, analyze any surveillance video from the scene of the crash, and obtain phone and texting records of the liable party,” said Bond, a national analyst for Accident Injury News.

“Time is of the essence in cases such as this one, and the victim’s family must ensure that evidence is reviewed efficiently.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, family members of Emily Trela may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim. Relatives of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a catastrophic accident.

“We understand that losing a loved one is not only a deeply emotional loss but also an economic one,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel with Bond Legal.

“If you have lost a loved one because of someone else’s negligence, contacting a wrongful death attorney can provide the guidance needed to pursue the justice you deserve.”
