JEFFERSON, OR (May 29, 2026) — A tragic accident at Link Creek Campground near Suttle Lake claimed the life of 6-year-old Ember Cuen on Saturday afternoon, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators said Ember Cuen, a Redmond resident, was walking toward the lake with a 5-year-old girl when a tow vehicle pulling a travel trailer approached from behind. Authorities believe the children moved between the tow vehicle and the trailer from the right rear, entering a blind spot as the driver slowly backed up.
Family members and nearby campers immediately attempted life-saving measures after the incident. Deputies responded to the campground at approximately 2:30 p.m. and found Ember unresponsive.
Emergency personnel transported the child to the intersection of U.S. 20 and Suttle Lake Road, where she was airlifted to St. Charles Bend for advanced medical care. Despite efforts to save her life, Ember was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
The 5-year-old girl was not struck and was not injured in the incident.
Authorities said the driver remained at the scene and fully cooperated with investigators. Deputies reported finding no signs of impairment or criminal conduct during their initial investigation.
The investigation remains ongoing. A fundraiser has been organized to assist Ember Cuen’s family during this difficult time.
