CHP: Elvira Nemenzo Dies in Newberry Springs Collision

NEWBERRY SPRINGS, CA, (July 05, 2026) – A 66-year-old Madera woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon in Newberry Springs.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Elvira Nemenzo was riding as a rear passenger in a Honda traveling north on Interstate 15 when the vehicle was rear-ended by a Porsche at approximately 12:10 p.m.

The CHP said in a statement that as traffic slowed, the driver of the Porsche failed to reduce speed in time and struck the rear of the Honda. The crash occurred near Harvard Road.

Nemenzo was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two other occupants of the Honda, including a child, were hospitalized with major injuries. The driver of the Porsche and another passenger in the Honda sustained injuries described as non-life-threatening.

FATAL TWO-VEHICLE ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Candice Bond, an experienced auto accident attorney, noted that distracted driving is responsible for roughly 90% of rear-end collisions.

Common distractions behind rear-end crashes include eating, texting, adjusting the radio, looking at other accidents, and talking with passengers.

Bond emphasized that in situations like this one, launching an independent investigation without delay is critical to preserving evidence on behalf of a grieving family.

“In addition to the diligent work of law enforcement, an attorney can collect the proper evidence to help prove that a driver’s actions were reckless, which requires a variety of resources,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and a national analyst for Accident Injury News. “Your lawyer can re-interview important witnesses, analyze any surveillance video from the scene of the crash and obtain phone and texting records of the liable party. Serving as an advocate, an attorney will help compassionately guide grieving families during this difficult time while protecting their legal rights and best interests.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Depending on the outcome of the investigation, Elvira Nemenzo’s family may be eligible to pursue a wrongful death claim. Families of wrongful death victims may be able to recover damages for loss of love and companionship, funeral expenses, pain and suffering, and emotional distress stemming from a tragic incident like this one.

“The stress and sorrow can be extremely overwhelming after losing a loved one in an accident,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal. “We understand just what families are forced to go through, and having their rights protected is vital. A wrongful death lawyer will stay updated on the official investigation and help ensure that their legal rights and best interests are protected.”
