CLEBURNE COUNTY, Ala. — A three-vehicle crash on Interstate 20 left a woman dead and injured another person early Sunday morning.
Elizabeth E. Melton, age 74, of Summerville, S.C., was driving a 2024 Buick Encore that collided with a 2019 Land Rover Discovery driven by a 65-year-old Covington, Georgia man shortly before 7:30 a.m. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency said the crash occurred near the milepost 207, about two miles east of Heflin.
Following the initial impact, a 2024 Volvo tractor-trailer operated by a 36-year-old Roanoke, Virginia man struck the Buick.
Melton was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 62-year-old Carrollton, Georgia man who was a passenger in Melton’s vehicle suffered unspecified injuries and was transported to Tanner Medical Center for treatment. No other injuries were reported.
