Elijah Green faces charges in Columbia hit-and-run death

COLUMBIA, SC (March 20, 2026) – A man has been arrested in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred last month in Columbia, police said.

Elijah Green, 36, faces charges including hit-and-run involving death, failure to render aid, and violation of a beginner’s permit.

According to the Columbia Police Department, Green was driving an SUV on Forest Drive when the vehicle left the roadway, struck a curb and a stop sign, and then hit a pedestrian before fleeing the scene.

Officers responded shortly after 7 p.m. and found the victim with life-threatening injuries. The victim later died from those injuries.

Green was taken into custody and booked into the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, where bond was denied.

FATAL ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

In many hit-and-run cases, drivers attempt to evade responsibility by fleeing the scene. However, once identified, suspects can face serious criminal charges.

Leaving the scene of a crash is illegal, and statistics show that more than one hit-and-run accident occurs every minute on U.S. roads.

Candice Bond, an experienced hit-and-run accident attorney, emphasized that conducting an independent investigation promptly is crucial to protecting victims’ rights.

“Having the proper resources is essential to investigate a hit-and-run case and establish negligence,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal.

“Conditions such as road design, visibility, and lighting are all important factors that must be carefully reviewed,” Bond added.

These steps are critical in helping families pursue justice and financial compensation after losing a loved one in a hit-and-run crash.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family of a victim may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim. Surviving family members can seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress.

“The emotional impact of losing a loved one in an accident can be overwhelming,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal.

“We understand the difficulties families face, and protecting their legal rights is essential. A wrongful death attorney will monitor the investigation and help ensure their best interests are upheld.”
