Driver hits, kills Issac Hicks Jr. in Toledo on Cherry Street, police say

TOLEDO, OH, (December 04, 2025) – A Toledo man was killed Thursday evening after being struck by a vehicle on Cherry Street, according to the Toledo Police Department.

Authorities said 64-year-old Issac Hicks Jr. was walking in the area of Cherry Street near Hillwood Drive when a southbound vehicle, driven by a 22-year-old woman, changed from the inside lane to the curb lane and struck him at approximately 5:50 p.m.

Hicks was transported to Mercy Health St. Vincent Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries. The driver remained at the scene. The crash remains under investigation.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Pedestrian deaths continue to rise on U.S. roadways each year, despite ongoing efforts to improve safety. These tragedies are preventable, and staying alert behind the wheel remains one of the most effective ways drivers can help reduce them. According to a report from the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA), approximately 2,304 pedestrians were struck and killed nationwide during the first half of 2024.

“Pedestrians typically have the right of way while crossing a street or intersection, whether or not a marked crosswalk is present,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal.

Bond, who is a seasoned pedestrian accident attorney, stressed the importance of conducting an independent investigation in cases like this to help safeguard the legal rights of the victim’s family.

“Securing the appropriate investigative resources is crucial in a pedestrian accident case,” Bond added. “Factors such as lighting, visibility, road layout, and driver behavior all need to be thoroughly reviewed.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

“It is almost always a motorist’s responsibility to yield to a pedestrian,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal. The family of Issac Hicks Jr. may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim.

“Families of wrongful death victims may seek compensation for funeral costs, emotional suffering, loss of financial support, and the loss of companionship following a devastating incident,” Formica explained.

An attorney can also serve as a steady advocate during a deeply challenging period, working to ensure the family’s rights remain protected. “Insurance carriers sometimes push for fast settlements that undervalue the true worth of a case,” Formica noted.

“A knowledgeable attorney will work diligently to secure fair and appropriate compensation while ensuring the family is treated with dignity throughout the process.”
