EDEN, N.C.— Authorities are investigating an April 24 accident involving a City of Eden dump truck that killed four pedestrians.
Officials identified Madison Carter, 42, of Sandy Ridge, as one of the four workers who died at the scene. The accident occurred at approximately 1:23 p.m. at the intersection of Carroll Street and Church Street.
The dump truck, driven by a 66-year-old man from Eden, failed to stop at a stop sign and struck six pedestrians. The truck continued and hit an occupied bucket truck before veering off the road into a ditch.
Two of the pedestrians suffered life-threatening injuries and were airlifted to the hospital. The bucket truck occupant sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Local police and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol are investigating.
