Doris Mace Dies in Canaan Township Minivan Accident, OSHP Says

CANAAN TOWNSHIP, OH, (June 1, 2026) – A 61-year-old Rittman woman lost her life Monday in a two-vehicle collision on State Route 83 in Canaan Township, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The victim was identified as Doris Mace.

Investigators said the crash occurred when a southbound Chevrolet Trax attempted a left turn onto State Route 604 and failed to yield the right of way. The Chevrolet then collided with a Chrysler Voyager minivan in which Mace was riding as a passenger.

The impact of the collision forced the minivan off the roadway and into a nearby field. Mace suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. No additional information was immediately released.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

When a driver has the right-of-way, other motorists are required to yield, allowing for the safe movement of traffic through intersections.

According to Candice Bond, an experienced auto accident attorney, failure-to-yield collisions are frequently caused by driver error. Other contributing factors may include impatience, distracted driving, and reckless behavior behind the wheel. Statistics show that approximately 40 percent of traffic crashes occur at intersections.

Regardless of the conclusions reached during the official investigation, Bond emphasized the importance of an independent review conducted by an attorney to help preserve evidence and protect the rights of a victim’s surviving family members.

“In addition to the work performed by law enforcement, an attorney can gather key evidence necessary to demonstrate reckless conduct, a process that often requires extensive resources,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and a national analyst with Accident Injury News. “A lawyer can revisit the scene, speak with witnesses, examine surveillance footage, and obtain phone and text records from the responsible party. By serving as an advocate, an attorney can help families navigate a difficult period while protecting their rights and helping ensure accountability.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

The family members of Doris Mace may be entitled to a wrongful death claim. Family members of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain, suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident.

“We understand the challenges families face after the sudden loss of a loved one, and protecting their legal rights is essential,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal. “A wrongful death attorney can monitor the official investigation and help ensure that a family’s interests are protected. Relatives of wrongful death victims may pursue compensation for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress resulting from a tragic accident.”
