AIRWAY HEIGHTS, WA, January 07, 2026 — A pedestrian was killed early Wednesday morning after being struck by a suspected impaired driver on Highway 2 in Airway Heights, according to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office.
Court records identified the victim as Donald Baily. Deputies said the crash occurred around 1:15 a.m. near South Centre Place as a 22-year-old male driver was traveling eastbound when he struck a pedestrian walking along the shoulder of the roadway.
Authorities reported the driver exited his vehicle and searched the area, believing he may have hit a person or an animal. After finding no one, he drove to a nearby parking lot and waited for police. The driver was later evaluated by a Drug Recognition Expert and charged with vehicular homicide. The investigation remains ongoing.
