SPRINGFIELD, MO, (May 21, 2026) – A 32-year-old man died following a pedestrian accident Thursday night in Springfield, according to police.

Authorities identified the victim as Christian Berry. Investigators said Berry was struck by a Dodge Charger driven by a 17-year-old at approximately 9:52 p.m. near the intersection of Chestnut Expressway and Grant Avenue.

Police said another pedestrian was also hit during the collision. Both men were transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

Despite medical efforts, Berry later died from injuries sustained in the crash.

Officials have not released additional information regarding the second pedestrian or possible contributing factors in the collision. The accident remains under investigation.

FATAL PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Pedestrian fatalities in Missouri reached a record level in 2024 with 148 deaths, marking a 16 percent increase from the previous year.

Pedestrian crashes can result from several contributing factors, including speeding, distracted driving, driver negligence, and impaired driving. Candice Bond, an experienced pedestrian accident attorney, emphasized that independent investigations are critical in cases like this to help safeguard the rights of victims’ families.

“Having the appropriate resources is extremely important when investigating a pedestrian accident case and establishing negligence,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and a national analyst at Accident Injury News. “Roadway conditions, visibility of signage, and lighting conditions are all potential contributing factors that should be thoroughly evaluated. These investigative steps are important in helping families pursue the justice and financial compensation they deserve.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

The family members of Christian Berry may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim. Families of wrongful death victims may seek compensation for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a catastrophic accident.

“We understand the tremendous difficulties families face after losing a loved one, and protecting their rights is essential,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal. “A wrongful death attorney can monitor the official investigation and help ensure that the family’s best interests are represented. Relatives of wrongful death victims may pursue damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic accident.”
