QUEENS, NY, (May 28, 2026) — A bicycle rider was killed Thursday morning in a collision involving an electric scooter on the Queensboro Bridge, according to the New York Police Department.
Authorities identified the victim as Dmytro Stechenko, 35. Police said the crash occurred at approximately 8:30 a.m. when a Teverun Blade GT stand-up electric scooter operated by a 39-year-old man allegedly crossed into oncoming traffic while attempting to pass another bicyclist.
Investigators reported that the e-scooter operator veered left into the path of Stechenko’s bicycle, resulting in a violent collision on the bridge.
Stechenko sustained fatal injuries in the crash. The e-scooter operator was also killed as a result of the collision.
The NYPD continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident, including the events that led to the e-scooter entering the opposing lane of travel.
