Police: Diana Minko dies after Highway 217 collision in OR

BEAVERTON, OR, (March 21, 2026) — A 21-year-old Portland State University student, Diana Minko, was killed Saturday night in a two-vehicle crash in Beaverton, police said.

Authorities reported that the crash occurred around 8 p.m. on State Highway 217 when a driver allegedly became distracted while reaching for a cellphone and rear-ended Minko’s vehicle.

Minko, who was returning home from work at Washington Square Mall, was transported to a hospital where she later died from her injuries.

The driver has not been charged, and the case has been referred to the Washington County District Attorney’s Office. The investigation remains ongoing.

An online fundraiser has been launched to help cover Diana’s medical bills and funeral expenses.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Rear-end collisions can occur for many reasons, but distracted driving remains one of the leading causes. Activities such as texting, talking on the phone, or adjusting in-vehicle controls can quickly lead to devastating consequences. These types of crashes are common and often result in serious injuries or fatalities. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that 8,055 people were killed in motor vehicle crashes during the first quarter of 2025.

As investigators work to determine fault in this case, Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal, stressed the importance of an independent investigation conducted by an experienced attorney.

“In addition to law enforcement efforts, an attorney can re-examine the evidence, speak again with witnesses, review surveillance footage, and obtain phone records from the involved parties,” said Bond, a national analyst for Accident Injury News.

“Acting quickly is critical so that all relevant evidence is preserved and carefully analyzed for the benefit of the victim’s family.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family members of Diana Minko may be eligible to pursue a wrongful death claim. Families of victims may seek compensation for loss of companionship, emotional distress, and other damages following a catastrophic accident.

“We recognize that the loss of a loved one is both emotionally and financially devastating,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal. “If a loved one has been lost due to negligence, it is important to seek experienced legal guidance to pursue justice.”

“Insurance companies may attempt to minimize payouts or deny claims. An attorney can help protect your rights and ensure that you receive fair treatment throughout the legal process.”
