Dewayne Aiseia dies in Spokane DWI crash on Airport Drive WA

SPOKANE, WA, (May 08, 2026) – A 21-year-old man was tragically killed Friday morning in a suspected drunken driving crash in Spokane, according to police.

Authorities identified the victim as Dewayne Aiseia.

Investigators said Aiseia was a passenger in a BMW that crashed into a large metal pole along Airport Drive between Spotted and Flint roads at approximately 7:30 a.m.

Aiseia suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Two additional passengers in the vehicle sustained serious injuries and were transported to local hospitals for treatment.

Police reported that officers allegedly detected the odor of alcohol on the driver’s clothing and discovered multiple open alcoholic beverage containers inside the BMW.

The unidentified driver was taken to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center. Investigators said the driver was unresponsive, preventing officers from conducting field sobriety tests.

The crash remains under active investigation.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

The combination of excessive speed and alcohol consumption creates an extremely dangerous situation that significantly increases the likelihood of deadly crashes such as the one that claimed Mr. Aiseia’s life.

Drivers under the influence often experience impaired judgment, slowed reaction times, reduced coordination, and diminished vision. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), alcohol and other impairing substances contribute to approximately 40 percent of all fatal traffic crashes each year.

Candice Bond, an experienced DUI accident attorney, commented on the dangers associated with impaired driving incidents.

“Separate from any criminal proceedings, the family of a crash victim may have the right to pursue compensation through a civil lawsuit against the responsible party,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and a national legal analyst for Accident Injury News.

“An attorney can serve as an advocate for grieving families during an incredibly difficult time, helping protect their legal rights while working to ensure impaired drivers are held accountable for reckless conduct,” Bond added.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

The family members of Dewayne Aiseia may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim. Surviving relatives of wrongful death victims may seek compensation for loss of companionship, emotional suffering, pain, and other damages following a tragic accident.

“We understand the tremendous difficulties families face after losing a loved one in a catastrophic crash, and protecting their legal rights is essential,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal.

“A wrongful death attorney can stay informed about the official investigation and help ensure that the family’s best interests remain protected. Relatives of wrongful death victims may be entitled to recover damages for emotional distress, loss of companionship, and pain and suffering following a fatal accident.”
