CHICAGO, IL, (May 24, 2026) – Authorities have identified 64-year-old Detrice D. Wortham as the victim of a fatal crash early Sunday morning in Chicago involving an alleged red-light violation.
According to the Chicago Police Department, officers responded to the 6900 block of South Stoney Island Avenue after receiving reports of a serious two-vehicle collision. Preliminary findings indicate that one vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when the driver allegedly ran a red light and crashed into another automobile.
Emergency crews treated victims at the scene before transporting Wortham, a passenger in one of the vehicles, to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries. Despite medical efforts, she later died from those injuries.
Police said the 45-year-old driver accused of causing the collision could face felony charges, including reckless homicide with a motor vehicle and driving on a revoked or suspended license.
The Chicago Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deadly crash.
