DENVER, CO (May 17, 2026) — Denver police detectives are investigating a fatal wrong-way collision Sunday that critically injured an off-duty firefighter on Interstate 25 near downtown Denver.
According to authorities, the crash occurred in the northbound express lanes of I-25 just north of Coors Field when a vehicle traveling south in the northbound lanes collided head-on with an oncoming pickup truck.
Police said the driver allegedly responsible for the wrong-way crash was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators later identified the surviving pickup truck driver as Berthoud Fire Protection District Lieutenant Ken Bradley.
Officials said Bradley remains hospitalized in the intensive care unit while undergoing multiple surgeries for severe leg fractures, broken ribs, and internal injuries sustained in the collision.
The Denver Police Department has not disclosed why the deceased driver was traveling the wrong direction at the time of the crash.
The investigation remains ongoing.
